New York

New York is a city of the United States of America. New York densely populated city in USA. More than eight million people live within the city boundaries. It lies along the Hudson River in the shoutheast corner of the state that has the dame name.

New York is the most ethnically diverse, religiously varied, commercially driven, famously congested, and, in the eyes of many, the most attractive urban centre in the country.

Where is New York?

It is distributed in five states that are: Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan and Brooklyn. The capital is Washington DC. The city has many places and buidings recognized worldwide. 

Places to visit

 Statue of Liberty. It was France’s gift yo America, built in 1886. It is one of the World’s largest statues standing just under 152 feet tall from the base to the torch.

Central Park. Thought at the city´s plauground, it covers 843 acres (341 hectares) and is located in the heart of Manhattan.

Times Square. Is a section of Manhattan. It is a major center for tourism, show busines and commerce. The square is at the meeting point of Broadway, 7th Avenue and 42nd Street. It is named for the New York Times which formerly had its main building there.

Empire State Building.  Is a9 skyscraper in New York. It is 381 metres (1,250 feet) tall and has 102 floors, and the height to its pinnacle is 1,454 feet. Named after the popular nickname for New York, The Empire State, it is one of the most famous landmarks in the US.

 Ellis Island. Is an island near New York. It was used for emmigrants coming from other countries to the US from 1892 until 1954. It is located in Upper New York harbor, north of Liberty Island (Statue of Liberty) and east of Liberty park.

Brooklyn Bridge. Is  hybrid cabled suspension. The bridge has a main span of 1,595.5 feet (486.3m) and a deck height of 127ft (38.7m) above Mean Hight Water. Opened on May 24, 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge was the firs fixed crossing across the East River.

Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Is an art museum. It is called The met. It is found on the Eastern edge of Central Park. It has a collection of more tan two millions works of art.

Weather

The weather un New York is humid, with constant winds that are accompanied by cold from the interior of the American continent.

Language

English is the most important language in New York, but spanish is the second most spoken language due the emmigrats of Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba…

History

At the time of its European discovery in 1524 by Giovanni da Verrazzano, the region was inhabited by arround 5000 indigenous people of the Lenape tribe. The European installation began in 1614 in the hands of the Dutch and in 1626, the head of the colony, Peter Minuit, bought the island of Manhattan from the Lenape. In 1664, the English conquered the city and renamed it the name of New York i honor of the Duke of York and Albany.
